The Green Gate is the largest and probably the oldest city gate in Gdańsk. It was built in the first half of the 16th century but first mentions come from the 14th century. The Green Gate is located at the end of one of the most beautiful gates in the city - the Long Lane. Today, it is owned by the National Museum in Gdańsk which organizes temporary exhibitions and meetings.
The Green Gate is a perfect example of Dutch Mannerism which was popular in the 16th century. It was built with small bricks what was a rarity in then times. The gate has four passages with the coat of arms above each. It's decorated with numerous reliefs made by the then prominent artists.Less
