Among the magnificent buildings located on the Royal Road, it is worth mentioning the Golden Tenement. Once called Speymann or Steffens's home, it has impressed with its magnificent architecture and decorations since the early 17th century.
The Golden Tenement was built on the order of Johann Speymann, then mayor of Gdańsk. Its facade is extremely richly decorated. In its central part are the coat of arms Speymann. On the front wall is a series of bas-reliefs depicting battle scenes. Among sculptures are also the likeness of the rulers, among others. Zygmunt III Vasa and Władysław Jagiełło. The last owners of the Golden Tenement, before the creation of the museum there, was the Steffens family - hence the name "Steffens's house".
The designer of the Golden Tenement is the famous architect and sculptor, Abraham van der Blocke. He also contributed to the creation of other magnificent objects such as the Golden Gate, Neptune Fountain and Artus Court.
