Hospital of the Holy Ghost

Local name: Szpital św. Ducha

The Museum of the History of Medicine presents items, photographies, and manuscripts related to this branch of science. The exposition is located in former hospital rooms. Worthy of attention is also the building itself. There are Gothic polychromies from the 15th century, epitaphs from the 17th century and the pulpit from the 18th century. The museum occupies Hospital of the Holy Ghost since 1990.

The building and attached St. Anne's Chapel were constructed in the years between 1426 and 1433. Their founder was Arnold von Datteln, parson of the chapter and canon. The current shape of the basilica was achieved 300 years later. The hospital operated here since the first half of the 14th century to the end of World War II. In later years, it served as a refuge for poor. Because of the warfare, it had been heavily damaged.

The building is surrounded by a small cemetery and monumental wall from its east side. The herbarium - a garden with medicinal herbs - is situated on the south side.
