Water Tower

Local name: Wieża Wodna

It is a Renaissance, historic building erected on the foundations of the Mill Gate. In 1571, a water supply device was installed in it, which, using wooden pipes, supplied water to the Cathedral Hill, the Episcopal Palace and to the houses of the canons. It was the first such construction in Poland and also the second in Europe. Currently, there is a lookout point, a cafe and a souvenir shop.

The creator of the water crane mounted in the tower was Walenty Hendell, a mayor from Wrocław. The Fromborska chapter paid for his work. The remuneration included two hundred thalers, twelve bushels of grain and compensation for clothing. The waterworks operated until 1778. His work was interrupted due to poor condition due to lack of maintenance. The building was revived only at the end of the 20th century. In 2012, with the help of the funds of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, it was renovated and brought to its current state. A year later, the renovated tower won a distinction in the "Well-kept Monument" Competition.
