Town Hall in Cieszyn

Local name: Ratusz w Cieszynie

The current look of the Town Hall is a result of numerous renovations and reconstructions. The last one we carried out in the 1830s. The Town Hall with its tower is one of the most characteristic buildings in the city.

The first town hall in Cieszyn was built in 1496. Since that time, the building was destroyed and burnt many times. Its final look was achieved in the reconstruction at the beginning of the 19th century. Despite it was on fire again in the same century, its structure didn't change significantly. The Town Hall was constructed in classicist style with additions of other styles.

Every day at 12 a.m. a trumpeter plays trumpet call on the town hall's tower. It's not a regular call though but a melody based on the Beskid's folk song „Helo, Helo, Helenko, jakus Ci sie pasie?”
