The Cieszyn Silesia Museum in Cieszyn is one of the oldest public museums in Poland. It has existed since 1802 and is currently divided into 7 thematic sections dealing with various aspects of the history of Cieszyn Silesia. These are the departments of archeology, ethnography, history and technology, art, photography, a scientific library, and a scientific and educational department.
The Department of Archeology hides priceless excavations, such as clay vessels of the Lusatian culture (dating back to 1800 BC) and Roman coins. The History and Technology Department houses items documenting the history of Cieszyn, including old seals, military badges and medals, various types of military items, as well as maps, musical instruments, typewriters, lamps, etc. The Photography Department complements the story of Cieszyn's history, showing the old buildings in the city and the lives of its inhabitants.
The Art Department has collected over 9,000 paintings, graphics, sculptures and handicrafts. The Ethnography Department presents exhibits referring to the folk art of Cieszyn Silesia.
