Town Hall in Bielsk Podlaski

Local name: Ratusz w Bielsku Podlaskim

The Town Hall in Bielsk Podlaski is a beautiful, small building constructed in modest late-Baroque style. It is located in the center of the square market. This 18th-century object was founded by Elżbieta Branicka, wife of Jan Klemens Branicki. The Museum in Bielsk Podlaski operates here.

The Town Hall was built in the place of other wooden building which burnt during a fire. The one-story brick object was constructed on a rectangular plan. Corners of its walls and hipped roof were cut. The small clock tower covered with a pointed roof with a strange creature towers above them.

In the 19th century, the powiat court and several shops were located in the Town Hall. In the 1950s and 1960s, on the other hand, there were the National Council, the Register Office, the Notary Office, and the Public Library. Its original look was brought back during the reconstruction.

Nowadays, it houses exhibits dedicated to the history of Bielsk Podlaski and the area. Visitors can admire archeological troves, paintings, furniture, a collection of old postcards, old photographs of the city, and important documents. Apart from historical items, the museum also collects pieces of folk art by local artists.
