The church dedicated to the Holy Spirit in Bialystok, dating from the 1980s, is the largest building of this type in Poland. It consists of two temples: the upper and lower, of which the Icon of the Mother of God "Unexpected Joy" is the patron. A bell tower was built next to the bewildering building. The tower is the third tallest building in the city, it measures 70 m and serves as an entrance gate. Inside the tower are as many as 10 bells, and from the outside the object was embellished with motifs of Greek crosses and mosaics.
The church was built on the octagon plan and refers to the symbolism of Pentecost. The form of the walls of the temple resemble the tongues of fire. The building was covered by five domes that symbolize Jesus and the four Evangelists. In the church there is a monument commemorating the Orthodox inhabitants of Białystok, who died between 1939 and 1956.The interior of the temple was designed in a modern way, however in accordance with the Orthodox traditions. There are two altars in the church, the main one of Saint Spirit and side of Saint Sava. Besides the altars, there is also a baptismal bowl with a separate entrance, a bishop's throne, and an enormous chandelier called panikadilo that resembles a crown. The walls are decorated with wonderful frescoes, while the floor is made of marble and granite. In the basement there is still a carpenter's workshop, useful during renovation works.Less
