Bialystok Puppet Theatre is one of the most significant places of puppetry in Poland. It was acclaimed as the centre of puppetry. In the building are presented performances for viewers of all ages. Children can watch marvelous fairy tales there, while puppetry adaptations of world literature await for adults.
Officially, the facility was established in the 1950s, but its origins are dated back to the interwar period. First, the theatre only staged plays for youngest viewers, and there was no studio in the building itself, which markedly limited the implementation possibilities. In the 1970s, the first Stage for Adults in Poland was set up, and the Acting Study of the Puppet Theatre was opened, and also the theatre itself gained a new building where three scenes are located. In the theatre storerooms "BTL Gallery" and "Puppet Cellar" ar located. You can see there dolls, stage props, masks and pieces of theatre scenography. Some items come from the beginning of theatre existence.Bialystok Puppet Theatre often does performances in a very original and unusual way. Unlike the convention of the puppetry, there are plays in which, apart from dolls, actors appear on the stage. Apart from that, some plays are performed in the open air. Additional attractions offered by the facility are theatre lessons, art workshops, reading dramas and meetings with artists.Less
