This medieval defensive building was built in the mid-fourteenth century, but its present appearance was influenced by reconstructions carried out in the 19th and 20th centuries. Over the centuries, many crowned heads stayed in it, including the ruler of Poland - Henryk Walezy and Jan III Sobieski. Today, it houses one of the branches of the Zagłębie Museum.
The castle in Będzin initially had a typically Gothic, austere character. The appearance of the castle's shape has changed due to the addition of crenellation on walls and towers, window frames and blind machicules. The height of the tower was also reduced and the “kasztel”, ie the residential part of the castle, was rebuilt. The walls of the Będzin castle house the so-called Museum of Zagłębie. The exhibition installed in this department of the museum includes exhibits on the history of Będzin, including stone bas-reliefs, documents from local guilds, maps, old firearms and artillery and memorabilia belonging to people who used to live in Będzin.Less
