Hessa is an island that is part of Ålesund. There is a popular viewpoint over the city, Sukkertoppen and a marine aquarium.
The island is a popular destination for excursions due to its diverse landscape, a large number of walking paths and buildings concentrated only on the shores. Ålesund is connected to the main part by a bridge.
Hess's main attraction is the Atlantic Aquarim. It is the largest saltwater aquarium in this part of Europe. It mainly presents fish and other animals inhabiting the cooler waters of the northern part of the globe.
Mountain Sukkertoppen is also waiting for mountain hikers. There is a viewpoint at its top. It offers a wonderful view of Ålesund and the Hessafjorden. Above them are the naked mountain peaks located further away from the coast. On weekends, the townspeople often come here for picnics and family trips.
