The Geiranger Herdalen landscape area (Geiranger Herdalen landskapsvernområd) is located in the district of Møre og Romsdal. the world-famous Geiranger fjord (Geirangerfjorde) and the surrounding green areas. Here you can admire the wild nature and cultural monuments. The fjord was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Tourists often go on a Geiranger fjord cruise on board the ferry. During the trip you can see high waterfalls such as the "Seven Sisters" (De Syv Søstrene), for example. There are old farms in the area surrounding the fjord.
The farms were built on steep cliffs, today they are abandoned, but the last tenants lived in these difficult conditions until the 1960s. The local people remember those times, recalling, among others, stories about small children tied by their parents to piles with long lines so that they do not fall into the abyss during carefree play.
