Mawrowo is a small but very famous town situated among the mountains, surrounded by a lake and the national park of the same name. It is a perfect place for active tourism, both in summer and in winter.
The town is currently focused primarily on supporting the growing tourist traffic. There is also the seat of the Mawrowo National Park. It covers vast mountain areas with the highest peak in Macedonia, Korab. The lower parts of the mountains are dominated by forests, and above you can admire mountain meadows from which there are beautiful views of the surrounding area.
The village has a history that goes back to the Middle Ages, but not many monuments have been preserved here. The most important of them and one of the greatest attractions of Mawrów is the Old Church standing on the very shore of the lake, and periodically flooded with its waters. There is also a small church of St. John the Baptist.
The vicinity of Mawrów is a good place for hiking. For example, you can go to the viewpoint over Lake Movrovo. A longer and more demanding trip is the hike to Korab or the main ridge of Szar Planina. In winter, the Mavrovo ski resort operates in the mountains.
