Bitola, located near the Greek border, is one of the most important archaeological sites in Macedonia. The ruins of the city of Herakleja Lynkestis in the suburbs are from the time of Philip II and are a great example of Macedonian civilization.

Heracleia Lynkestis was created during the emerging splendor of ancient Macedonia during the reign of Philip II. Today, the archaeological site, secured and restored to a state of permanent ruin, is open to tourists. You can see here, among others amphitheater, remains of houses and workshops, agora and subsequent buildings, such as the ruins of an early Christian basilica or Byzantine fortress.

The Bitoli Center has been shaped for centuries by the Turkish occupation. There are two historic mosques and an indoor bazaar still used for commercial purposes. Next to it is the clock tower, characteristic of the Balkan city of Saat Kula.

The city also refers to its ancient past. A monumental monument to Alexander the Great stands here, and the Museum has a lot of excavated items. The most valuable, however, were given to the Museum of Macedonia in Skopje.
