Heikese Church
Local name: Heikese Kerk
The church Dionysius, commonly known as the church of Heikese, is a beautiful building erected in the Gothic style. The church rebuilt many times today has a neo-Gothic character. You can see many beautiful works of sacred art here. The most valuable are two 15th-century candlesticks and a picture from the 17th century.
It is also worth paying attention to the cyborium from 1700 and the beautiful monstrance from 1715. The main altar is dated 1700, made by Willem Kerrick. However, it is not the original part of the decor, it was bought in 1821, it comes from the Sint-Walburgis church in Antwerp.
After years of splendor in the 17th century, the temple began to decline. Therefore, it was partly used as a town hall. The building remained secular until 1811, while in 1823 it was taken over by Catholics.
