Brabant Natural History Museum
Local name: Natuurmuseum Brabant
Stichting Natuurmuseum is a museum of natural history founded in 1935. Currently, it is located in a villa that once belonged to the clothing manufacturer Guillaume JD Pollet. On three floors of the building, both temporary exhibitions and a permanent exhibition devoted to the natural environment of Brabant are presented - presenting its landscape, the richness of plant and animal species.
In 2011, the Stichting Natuurmuseum expanded with a new exhibition space in a nearby train depot. You can see the magnificent skeleton of a 15-meter sperm whale. In turn, on the top floor of the main building, an interactive space for discovering and experiences was prepared, addressed to the youngest guests of the museum (children aged 4-8).
At the beginning, Stichting Natuurmuseum was an initiative of local nature enthusiasts. It started as a collection of dozens of stuffed animals, and its tour took only a few minutes. One of the most popular exhibitions was the diorama made of natural mushrooms, collected in the surrounding forests, prepared every autumn.
