Museum Black Tulip
Local name: Museum de Zwarte Tulp
The museum shows the 500-year tradition of growing tulips in the region. A modern multimedia exhibition shows how these plants were grown in the past and how it is done today. The exhibitions combine botany with the history, art and culture of the region.
The area around Lisse is famous for growing tulips. These bulbous plants of different colors began to be cultivated here in the Middle Ages. Trade and the art of flower motifs developed around this branch of agriculture. At museum exhibitions, you can see past and present gardening and agricultural tools, an 18th-century botanist's office, which crossed varieties to get the most beautiful flowers, boards showing different varieties of tulips, as well as handicrafts, ceramics, glass and jewelry referring to floral motifs and colors .
