Boerhaave Museum
Local name: Rijksmuseum Boerhaave
The Boerhaave National Museum, or Museum of Science, contains a collection of historical scientific instruments from all fields of science, mainly in the fields of medicine, physics and astronomy. You can also see the full reconstruction of the Anatomical Theater from 1990, the seventeenth-century surgical instruments of Cornelis Solingen and many models of the human body produced by Louis Auzoux.
The museum is named after Herman Boerhaave, a Dutch doctor, anatoma, botanist, chemist and researcher. Originally it was located in a former academic hospital. It was founded in 1928 to promote knowledge, primarily among children and young people. Museum lessons and guided tours with a program adapted to different age groups take place here today. In 2017, the museum was modernized. Short films, audio clips, animations and digital magazines have become part of the exhibition.
