Natural History Museum
Local name: Naturalis Biodiversity Center
Naturalis Biodiversity Center, i.e. a museum of natural history and research center, which have a total of about 37 million geological, botanical and zoological specimens. The geological collection alone has over 3 million fossils. The pride of the permanent exhibition is the femur and upper skull, and a tooth belonging to homo erectus - the ancestor of man.
The botanical collection consists of three herbariums - the historical collections of George Clifford (1685-1760), Petrus Cadé (second half of the 16th century) and Paul Hermann (1646-1695). In total there are about 6 million plant specimens - all of them have been digitized and are available on the Internet.
The Naturalis Biodiversity Center also has one of the world's most valuable beetle collections and a huge collection of day and night butterflies. The entire entomological collection consists of 18 million individual specimens.
