Local name: Westfries Museum
The Westfries Museum is a museum of regional history founded in the Dutch city of Hoorn. You can find here a rich collection of paintings, silver cutlery and utility items, porcelain and firearms. Exhibits are exhibited in 25 rooms. In contrast, in the 15th-century cellars discovered in 1953, an archeological exhibition with objects from Hoorn and the surrounding area is presented.
Like many Dutch museums, it also implements numerous educational programs. Children and young people can learn about the most dynamic and wonderful period in West Friesland called the Golden Age. What's more, museum lessons are related to school lessons. It is also possible to prepare the program on request.
This place became famous when on January 10, 2005, the day the museum celebrated its 125th anniversary, four people stole 21 paintings and part of the silver collection. The losses were valued at millions of euros. Four paintings were found in Ukraine in April 2016, the fate of the others is unknown.
