Zuiderzee Museum
Local name: Zuiderzeemuseum
The museum is dedicated to the local cultural and maritime heritage. It consists of two parts. The first includes a number of installations and exhibitions housed in several 18th-century buildings, including the ship's hall. Here you can see, among others a collection of boats, furniture, traditional costumes and works of art, mainly paintings on a maritime theme.
The second part is an open-air museum. There are replicas of original traditional houses and workshops, including a laundry, pharmacy, forge, hairdresser and cheese warehouse. There is also a restored school and a smokehouse. Traditional craftsmanship, such as basket weaving and rope production, are regularly held here.
The museum houses several restaurants and bars where you can relax and dine between visiting exhibitions and buildings.
