Tropical Museum
Local name: Tropenmuseum
The Tropenmuseum, or Tropics Museum, is an ethnographic museum that is part of the Dutch Museum of World Cultures. Permanent exhibitions are devoted primarily to the culture and crafts of Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean.
Established in 1864 in Haarlem as a Colonial Museum, the purpose of which was to show Dutch overseas colonies such as Indonesia. In 1923 he was transferred to Amsterdam. When Indonesia became independent in 1945, the museum became interested in other colonial states on various continents. This is how the collection of nearly 175,000 exhibits was created.
The museum has a special children's section, Tropenmuseum Junior, which introduces the knowledge of exotic countries in an interactive and attractive way.
