SVETI STEFAN tourist attractions

Sveti Stefan is one of the most recognizable attractions of Montenegro. Situated on a peninsula and surrounded by the sea, the town of stone houses covered with tiled roofs is now an exclusive resort where film and entertainment stars spend their holidays.

St. Stefan, connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway, is small and almost entirely built-up. It has been inhabited since the 15th century and there was initially a fortified fishing village here. Its greatest period of development was in the 16th and 17th centuries, and then it gradually began to depopulate. Only a few people lived here in the mid-twentieth century, and most of the houses were in ruins.

It was then that the idea of turning the island into a resort arose. Stone houses, small churches and defensive walls were rebuilt, and the interiors of the huts were transformed into high-class apartments. Restaurants and bars have appeared in the streets, and the whole thing has taken the form of a closed, exclusive holiday estate. Today, access to the inside is only possible for guests. But just as beautiful is the view of the peninsula from a vantage point above the road.

Attractions of Sveti Stefan include not only the peninsula itself, but also the nearby beach. The most important is the Sveti Stefan beach reserved for guests of local hotels. It is located right next to the walls, next to the dyke leading to the land. In the vicinity, however, you can enjoy unlimited sunbathing on the pebble beach of Gallia and on the beach of Milocer, which is covered with fine gravel.
