Marina Perast

Local name: Luka Perast

Perast is a small town, which since 1979 together with Kotor and other nearby towns has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the so-called Natural and Cultural and Historical Region of Kotor. There are plenty of great monuments here. The two most interesting islands are: George and the Island of the Virgin Mary on the Rock.

It is also worth paying attention to the objects of the Venetian Republic. These are, among others churches of st. Nicholas, Saint. Mark and St. Antoni's church John the Baptist from 1592, the palace of the Zmajević family, the palace of the Smekija family, as well as the palace of the Bujović brothers, which today houses a museum presenting the city's past, mainly related to maritime theme.

The name of the place is derived from its founders - the Illyrian Pirust tribe. Its greatest boom was in the 17th and 18th centuries, when most of the buildings that have survived to this day have been built. The village was significantly damaged during the great earthquake in April 1979, and some buildings have not been rebuilt to this day.
