The Hagar - Heart of Gozo - Museum
Local name: Il-Hagar - Qalb ta 'Għawdex - Mużew
Il-Hagar Heart of Gozo Museum is the Museum of the Basilica of Saint. George, which presents the resources of the temple treasury as well as historical and cultural monuments Il-Ħaġar - a medieval city on the island of Gozo. The museum was opened in 2013 based on funds obtained from subsidies from the European Union.
The most valuable objects in the collection of the Heart of Gozo Museum are the 17th-century painting of Saint. Kajetan of an unknown author and paintings from the 18th century by Enrico Regnaudand and Gio Nicola Buhagiara. Noteworthy are the oldest sculptures in the collection: the statue of the Risen Christ (unknown artist) and the eighteenth-century Saint. Veronica (probably chisel by Saverio Laferl) and the 19th-century sculpture "Ecce Homo" by Carlo Darmanin. All the listed works have been carefully restored.
An important topic of the exhibition is the presentation of the life and work history of Matti Preti (1613-1699) - an outstanding Italian caravaggionist and fresco painter who spent the second half of his life in Malta.
