The artificial lake was built in 1930. It is 2.6 km long, and its width ranges from 250 to 500 m. At the deepest point, the reservoir measures 5 m. It is a good place for water sports such as canoeing, rowing, sailing or water skiing. You can also swim here or rent pedal boats.
The lake is used as a venue for rowing events. The first one was held in 1934. In 1938 and 1950, the European Rowing Championships were held here. For the purposes of the competition, 9 tracks with a length of 1000 m were built. In the finish zone there is a roofed grandstand that can seat 900 spectators.
The lake was built as a landing site for seaplans. Only when their use decreased, did the reservoir become a popular recreational place.
