San Remo is a famous resort on the Ligurian Coast. It is famous for the Italian Song Festival, and in the past it competed with its casino located near Monte Carlo. Although now its fame has faded a bit, you can still feel the atmosphere of a fashionable vacation spot from the second half of the 20th century.
The city is located on the French border and is now also treated as a cheaper starting point to the Cote d'Azur. The Italian Riviera, to which it belongs, is still eagerly visited by tourists, although its prestige has deteriorated a bit. San Remo experienced its heyday in the mid-twentieth century. It was famous for its casino and exclusive boutiques, which hosted a cream of socialites from all over the world.
The busiest place in Sanremo, apart from the beaches, is the port of PortoSole. It is reached by a pedestrianized street full of restaurants, cafes and bars. Also today, the city is full of expensive luxury brand stores, which tourists from all over the world stock up on. Above the port is the Old Town with dense buildings consisting of tall, slender tenement houses. In the narrow, cobbled streets you can find the atmosphere before the tourist boom. Above the buildings there is a somewhat overgrown vantage point overlooking the port and the bay.
