Maxentius Basilica is located at the Roman Forum in Rome. Construction began during the reign of Maxentius Emperor, and work was completed when the emperor was Constantine the Great. Only the northern part of the basilica and the classical vault have survived. Probably the temple was destroyed during the 847 earthquake.
The building was huge for its time, built on a rectangular plan measuring 100 meters by 65 meters, and the main nave was 80 meters long. The floors were covered with colorful marble, and the walls were decorated with stucco. After the glory days of the basilica, one of the columns with a height of 14.5 meters remained, which currently stands in the square in front of the Basilica of St. Mary Major.
The remains of the statue of Constantine, originally placed in the apse of the basilica, can be seen in the Capitoline Museums.
