The Museo Storico dei Bersaglieri in Rome presents the history of the Bersaliers, an Italian mechanized infantry. The collection includes important documents, photos, videos and detailed reports on combat operations conducted by the corps. Visitors will also see antique weapons and uniforms here.
The museum contains the grave of Enrico Toti, a disabled soldier who fell during World War I, in the sixth battle of Isonzo. He was recognized as an Italian national hero and posthumously awarded a medal.
The founder of the formation was Alessandro La Marmora, he modeled on the units of alpine shooters and Cacciatori - shooters from Piedmont. Marmora came up with the idea of creating a bersalier corps during the convalescence he had after the Battle of Goito (1848).
The Bersaliers fought in the Crimean War (1853–1856) and on the fronts of both world wars. To this day, there are six regiments of this formation.
