Saint Basilica Nicholas in Prison (Basilica di San Nicola in Carcere) in Rome is a Roman Catholic temple from the sixteenth century. Tourists can visit the historic crypt, which has preserved the remains of the ancient temple of Juno Sospita.
Precious monuments also include a painting from 1470 by Antonio di Benedetta Aquili (aka Antoniazzo Romano) entitled "Madonna and Child" and the painting "Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe" from 1773 straight from Mexico. The main altar holds the relics of the martyrs of the Catholic Church.
The first temple probably existed in this place as early as the sixth century. It was created on the ruins of the temples of Forum Olitorio, which were transformed into prisons (hence the name). To this day, elements preserved from Roman buildings from the 3rd century are visible in the facade of the church.
