Nago-Torbole is a holiday village on the northern shores of Lake Garda. It is surrounded by mountains and consists of two independent parts, Nago situated in the mountains and Torbole, a former fishing village and now a swimming and windsurfing center.
The fate of both parts of the village was slightly different over the centuries. Due to its location, naked was of strategic importance. Above the buildings there is the Penede Castle from the 12th century, and in the village itself in later centuries a two-level fortress, Fort Nago, was erected. Currently, it houses a museum, concert hall and restaurant.
On the other hand, located on the very shore of Lake Torbole, until the end of the 18th century, it was an insignificant fishing village. However, at the beginning of the 19th century, it began to be visited by writers, poets and artists, attracted by Goethe's description. They were followed by representatives of the wealthy bourgeoisie and aristocracy, and hence only a step away from creating a resort. The proximity to the much more famous Riva del Garda also helped.
Currently, Torbole is one of the most important holiday resorts on the Garda. There are hotels, guesthouses and holiday apartments here. Torbole's attraction is the wide, pebble beach, which is one of the largest on the lake. There are also water equipment rentals, and windsurfing is very popular due to the winds already described by Goethe. There are windsurfing schools in the city, you can also rent a board and order lessons with an instructor.
