Santa Maria dei Miracoli presso San Celso is a church and also a shrine in Milan. In the church you can see numerous works of Milan Renaissance and Baroque artists, such as: Giovan Battista Crespi (il Cerano), Camillo and Giulio Cesare Procaccini, Carlo Francesco Nuvolone, Antonio Campi, Bergognone and Callisto Piazza. Particularly noteworthy is the miraculous icon of the Madonna, the image of the Baptism of Jesus by Gaudenzio Ferrari and Giovan Battista della Cerva, Fall of St. Paweł Moretto, altar of the right transept and altar of Paris Bordone. In the altar designed by Martino Bassi there is a marble sculpture of Assunta by Annibale Fontana.
Construction of the church of Santa Maria Presso began in 1493 according to the design of Gian Giacomo Dolcebuono and Giovanni Battagio. Then it underwent reconstruction in the 15th and 16th centuries. The former Romanesque church of San Celso, which has been largely destroyed during the century, is connected to the church of Santa Maria Presso. It was created in the 4th century and underwent reconstruction in the 11th century. Its current facade dates from the nineteenth century.
