Porta Garibaldi is a city gate located in Milan on the route to Como. It is also known under the earlier name of Porta Comasina. It is built in the neoclassical style. It was created to commemorate the visit of the Austrian Emperor Franciszek I, which took place in 1825. In 1860, the gate was rebuilt and dedicated to the memory of Garibaldi. Porta Garibaldi is a perfect example of Doric style. It is surrounded by two impressive portals overlooking the streets. In 1839, customs houses were built near the gate. Despite its monumental dimensions, the gate fits well with the proportions and architecture of the nearby streets.
Currently, Porta Garibaldi also functions as the name of the entire district in which the gate is located.
