The square owes its name to the Greek poet Stesichorus, whose grave was here in Roman times. The two parts of the square have different architectural styles. In the east stands a statue of Vincenzo Bellini, on the other side of the square is visible part of the Roman amphitheater discovered at the beginning of the 20th century.
