The church was built in the early eighteenth century, after the earthquake that destroyed most of the city. The church design is attributed to a baroque architect named Angelo Italia who changed the orientation of the previous building. Tourists can admire three altars with canvases of saints, a baptistery, and eighteenth-century wooden organs and a choir.
