Elephant Fountain

The famous fountain with the elephant statue was built in 1735-1737 by architect Giovanni Battist Vaccarini. The main element of the fountain is the image of an elephant made of basalt. The fountain was created as part of the plan to rebuild the city after the earthquake on January 11, 1693.
