Roman Amphitheater of Catania

The Roman amphitheater was probably built in the 2nd century AD on the northern edge of the ancient city. The area it stands in is now part of the historic center, in the past it was also used as a cemetery. Only the Coliseum in Rome gave way to its amphitheater.
