The oldest monument of Cagliari is the Roman theater carved out of rock from the 2nd century. However, the Castello district or castle is considered to be the most beautiful. It is surrounded by the remains of defensive walls with defensive towers and gates. The towers are open to the public, so you can admire the magnificent panorama of the city. Among the stately houses of the Old Town, there are several noteworthy churches from the 16th and 17th centuries. Many of them have rich sculptural and stucco decorations.
