It is the second tower built in the capital of Sardinia after Torre di San Pancrazio - it was built in 1307. They never guarded the entrance to the city, and today they are a symbolic gate leading to Castello, its oldest district. Torre dell'Elefante owes its name to the elephant figure adorning it. There is a beautiful view of the entire city from here.
