The Sheep Pond or Betesda Pond is a water pool located in the Muslim district of Jerusalem. The tank can be found right next to the Basilica of Saint. Anna, in the valley of Bet Zeta. St. In his Gospel, John describes a pond in Jerusalem, located near the Lion Gate. The pool was to be surrounded by cloisters and used for medicinal purposes. The exact location of Betesda Pool was unknown until the 19th century, when archaeologists discovered its remains.
According to St. John the Evangelist, Sheep Pool was the place where Jesus Christ healed a paralytic. This fact made the place a Christian sanctuary of great religious and historical significance. Next to the Betesda Basin, the first basilica was built in Byzantium, which has not survived to the present. In its place a new temple was erected, dedicated to St. Annie.
Fragments of the Sheep Pond were excavated during excavations. In 1964, the remains of the Byzantine and medieval churches, Roman temples of mythological deities and small healing water reservoirs were found around the pool. The Sheep Pond is an important point on the tourist map of Jerusalem and a destination for pilgrimages of the faithful.
