Orthodox church of St. Mary Magdalene in Jerusalem is an Orthodox temple, located on the Mount of Olives, near the Garden of Gethsemane in the eastern part of the city. The church built in 1886 was dedicated to Mary Magdalene, a faithful follower of Jesus. The building was built on the orders of Antonin Kapustin, a Russian clergyman and Tsar Alexander II, who wanted to honor the memory of Maria Alexandrovna Romanova.
The Jerusalem church was built according to the design of David Grimm. The traditional style of the tent roof was used, which for many centuries was extremely popular in Russian religious architecture. The church's hallmark is seven characteristic domes, which are often found in traditional Orthodox religious buildings.
In the church of St. To Mary Magdalene there are relics of two holy martyrs, Princess Elizabeth Fyodorova from Russia and the Orthodox nun Varvara Yakovleva. Inside the church, you can admire the frescoes made by Sergei Ivanov, which illustrate scenes from the life of St. Mary Magdalene and the marble iconostasis.
