The Museum of Fine Arts collects collections of world (mainly European) painting and sculpture, with the exception of Hungarian art. The museum's collection includes over 100,000 European and Middle Eastern works from all artistic periods, from antiquity (Egyptian art) to the present.
Currently, the museum is closed due to renovation, and part of its collection is presented in the Hungarian National Gallery at the Royal Castle. You can admire the works of famous European artists, including Rodin, Gauguin, Van Dyck, Breugel and Coreggio. The reopening of the Museum of Fine Arts is expected to take place in 2018.
The building of the Museum of Fine Arts was built according to the design of Albert Schickedanz and Fülöp Herzog in the classical style. Much of the museum's collection comes from donations from noble Hungarian families, such as Esterházy and Zichy, as well as from the collection of the Royal Castle.
