At the headquarters of the Museum of East Asian Arts Ferenc Hoppa only temporary exhibitions are organized. Some of the museum's collections can be viewed as part of the permanent exhibitions at the György Ráth Museum nearby. Three separate exhibitions present Japanese, Chinese and Indian art. The most valuable objects include medieval Japanese exhibits and Chinese bronze and porcelain items.
The Museum of East Asian Arts was founded on the initiative of its patron, Ferenc Hopp and thanks to his private collections (about 4,000 exhibits from Japan), which he donated for this purpose a few years before his death. His goal was to bring visitors to very distant cultures through their art.
The museum was opened in 1923 and since then it has significantly expanded its collections with exhibits from almost all of Asia: Korea, Vietnam, Tibet, China, Nepal, Mongolia and the Middle East.
