Oberstdorf is a tourist destination and health resort in the Allgäu Alps. It is known to skiing enthusiasts from the Four Hills Tournament held here and numerous downhill and cross-country tracks in the area.
The village is located in a mountain valley at an altitude of approx. 800 m above sea level. The Nebelhorn peak rises above it, 2,224 m above sea level, which can be accessed by the Nebelhorn cable car. From the top there is an impressive view of more than 400 alpine peaks.
There are also other lifts and mountain railways in the vicinity, such as the Fellhorn and Söllereck cable cars. Most of them service the local downhill skiing tracks in winter. In summer, the slopes turn into cycling routes. Numerous hiking trails are also conducive to hiking, and the cableways make it easier to get to the higher parts of the mountains.
A big attraction of Oberstdorf are the local ski jumps. The first competition of the 4-Hills-Tournament takes place at the Schattenbergschanze every year at the end of December. There is also the Heini-Klopfer-Skiflugschanze ski flying hill, which hosts the participants of the World Cup ski jumping competitions.
Oberstdorf is also a health resort with hot springs that flow here. The Obersdorf thermal baths provide relaxation and recreation, as well as medical and wellness treatments.
