Vaduz Castle

Local name: Schloss Vaduz

Vaduz is the capital of Liechtenstein, picturesquely situated at the foot of the Rhaetian Alps on the banks of the Rhine. Its biggest attraction is the prince's castle rising on the rock and culinary and wine traditions dating back to the Middle Ages.

The city was founded in the Middle Ages and the princes of Liechtenstein live in the local castle standing on a high rock today. Therefore, the interior of the residence is not available to visitors, but the hill offers a great panorama of the area.

The second place associated with the prince's family is the neo-Gothic cathedral of St. Florian, with the vault of the rulers. The surrounding Old Town abounds in nice, Baroque and Classicist buildings.

For such a small city, there are many interesting museums in Vaduz. The most famous of them is the Liechtenstein Art Museum, one of the world's largest private collections of painting and sculpture. You can also find here The Museum of Postal Stamps and the Museum of Skiing.

Vaduz attracts tourists with its cuisine and excellent wines. There are vineyards and wineries serving local spirits. Many tourists also go to historic taverns, and one of the local restaurants, Löwen boasts a history dating back to the fourteenth century.
