Oberstaufen is a tourist destination in the Alps and one of the largest winter sports centers in the Allgau region. There are several dozen kilometers of downhill and cross-country trails, and in summer you can wander along the picturesque trails around the village.
The town is picturesquely situated in a mountain valley, surrounded by forested slopes, which higher up into rocky peaks reaching almost 2000 m above sea level. It has low, traditional buildings with numerous pensions and hotels with a true mountain atmosphere.
In summer, the area is perfect for hiking in the mountains. A popular destination are the Buchenegger Falls, which form a cascade approximately 30 meters high. At their foot there is a swimming pool with crystal clear water. You can also take the Hochgrat cable car to the summit of the same name. There is an easy trail from the station to the summit, from which you can admire the wonderful views of the area. There is also a restaurant and a playground for children.
In winter, around 40 km of ski slopes of various difficulty levels and 80 km of cross-country trails operate in the Oberstaufen region. The entire resort has good logistics facilities, with equipment rentals, a ski school, restaurants and bars.
