Walter Zoo
Local name: Walter Zoo
Approximately 500 animals representing 100 species from all continents live in the open spaces and in the rooms of the Walter Zollg Garden. The priority of the garden is breeding chimpanzee and big cats. In addition, we will find here, among others species such as camel, owl, flamingo, vulture, blue peacock and American alligator.
The name of the zoo comes from its founder Walter Pischl. Walter was an Austrian circus artist who, together with his wife Edith Pischl, gave circus shows with a dog and a monkey in Switzerland in the years 1955 - 1957. He was a great animal lover and a talented trainer. In 1961, Walter's Zoo was founded in Gossau.
Walter's Zoo is a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Participates in various animal protection programs, acts as a quarantine center for illegally introduced or kept animals. He regularly participates in research projects and training in the field of biology and veterinary medicine.
