The famous wave is formed on the artificial river Eisbach, which flows through the park Englischer Garten, the largest public park in Munich. It is 1 meter high and about 12 meters wide and the flow speed is about 5 m per second.

The most popular surfing wave is on the southern edge of the park, right next to Haus der Kunst. A few hundred meters further north of Englischer Garten, there is a second standing wave, designed for beginner surfers.
