Reeperbahn is an entertainment street in the St. Pauli. It is considered one of the two centers of nightlife in Hamburg, followed by Sternschanze. It is also the so-called red light district, often called "the street of sin." There are many restaurants, night clubs, discos and bars. There are also strip clubs, sex shops and escort agencies. In the side streets located along it, there are, among others theaters, cabarets and wax office Panoptikum.
Due to crime problems, in 2007 the Hamburg Senate introduced a ban on weapons in the Reeperbahn area. Hansaplatz is the only other such non-weapons area in Hamburg.
In the early 1960s, even before becoming world famous, the Beatles played here. Appeared among others in Star-Club, Kaiserkeller, Top Ten (Reeperbahn 136) and Indra. Stories of the band's concerts became a local legend. It is said, among others about the fact that John Lennon played several songs with a toilet seat hung around his neck.
