Frankfurt Zoo
Local name: Zoo Frankfurt
The Palais Zoo is a neoclassical building that is the main entrance to the Frankfurt Zoo. The building has a concert hall, capable of seating up to 1,000 people, which hosts both classical music concerts and club events. The Palais Zoo also houses the Fritz Rémond Theater, founded in 1947 - the only theater in the world operating in the zoo.
Rental of objects in the zoo for commercial purposes has a tradition dating back to the 1940s. The garden ruined during the war did not receive financial support from the city authorities. The director of the time, Bernhard Grzimek, did not agree to the closure of the activity - a lunapark was organized in the garden, dance parties were regularly held, and a circus was hosted. These activities were criticized, but thanks to them Grzimek saved the zoo from liquidation.
During World War II, the zoo survived the disaster: most buildings and fences burned down, all animals in aquariums and terrariums died, large cats and 90%. other species.
